A Wellness Assessment is similar to the idea of a ‘routine physical’ from the doctor. For physical therapy, this consists of a comprehensive movement assessment to identify any areas of dysfunction that may predispose you to injury as you perform your typical daily tasks and exercise. This could be as simple as identifying poor posture associated with back pain, to identifying ankle instability that may result in sprains during running. You will be given the results of your movement assessment and any recommendations for strengthening, mobility activities, and postural corrections as needed.
As preventative maintenance for your body, a Wellness Assessment is recommended once per year, or twice per year if you are an athlete (competitive or recreational). Wellness Assessments are NOT intended to be used as evaluations for pre-existing injuries or pain. If you would like treatment for pre-existing injuries or pain, please let your physical therapist know during your visit.
The fee for a one-hour Wellness Assessment is the same as for a one-hour Physical Therapy Evaluation, because you will still be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist, will have a full hour dedicated to you for a comprehensive evaluation, with specific focus on any regions that are of special interest or need for you, and will also receive a home program to address your needs to maintain optimal wellness.
